Scottish Association For Metals To Support R&D

GCU racing are pleased to announce our latest partnership for the 2024 UK Formula Student competition as The Scottish Association for Metals (SAM).

SAM is the academic organisation for professional metallurgists and materials technologists within Scotland, whom also support the work of students aspiring to work in the industry at a professional level. With the support of SAM this will allow the team to advance the development in our semi-stressed engine and hybrid chassis design, therefore resulting in a lighter car and importantly not compromising on the torsional rigidity of the vehicle. The hybrid chassis design is able to be achieved with the amalgamation of welded steel tubes and aluminium machined bulkhead. Following the build, this should increase the reliability of the car but also allow the team to stand out as this is a very rare design to be seen within Formula Student UK. In addition, with the funding from SAM this allows for the team members to gain more experience using different materials and a differing setup as to that has been previously used for the rear of the car.

GCU Racing are extremely thankful for the support from The Scottish Association for Metals to provide the opportunity for our members to gain more experience with an array of different materials and processes.
